Quilombola Voices & Visions
Twenty-six Quilombola community members from Canelatiua, Itamatatiua, São João de Côrtes, Santa Maria, and São Mauricio celebrate our sustenance, traditional culture, territory, and community in the most organic and authentic ways through our lenses and voices. These visual recounts and reflections highlight our deep-rooted connection to collective experience and belonging through our shared identities. We know our stories best. We are therefore the ones to shed light on what matters most to us. Through democratic data production and storytelling, we foster counter-narratives to rewrite our history and mobilize social and political capital to advance our rights to sovereignty and self-determination. These works of art share with the world the beauty of our homelands and ways of life and the vital importance of preserving them.
