Supporting Our Cause

Your donations to the Quilombos of Alcântara will greatly aid our ongoing struggle for recognition of our collective land rights by the Brazilian government. In the immediate future, contributions will be used to acquire a van to increase the connectivity between our neighboring Quilombo communities by supporting transportation to medical facilities, facilitating medical service delivery, bringing youth together, and allowing for tourists to visit the region. In the long term, funds will help improve our infrastructure, including our roads, schools, and medical facilities, as well as increase our educational resources and our ability to implement environmental restoration initiatives to preserve our forests and rivers.

Our visions of thriving and self-determination are big but they are achievable! Join the movement and donate to support our efforts!

“My vision is very big. I want Santa Maria to be benefited with all the things we need for improvement. For it to have a worthy teacher for our students and also for us, rural workers … I want a worthy road, a better school. Instead of our students leaving. For them to have a job opportunity here.”

– Gaudencia Rodrigues Nogueira, Quilombo Santa Maria, Retired School Teacher, Elder, & Community Leader
